Our Batik Workshop is a craft-focused and design-oriented introduction to the traditional art of wax resist textile dyeing. Originating in Indonesia and later travelling across the world through trade and globalisation, batik remains an important textile craft that combines drawing, surface design, wax application, and dyeing techniques.

This workshop is designed as a creative and skill-based learning experience where participants explore their personal design language while understanding the technical foundations of batik. Through guided experimentation, participants learn how to transfer designs onto fabric, work with different waxing techniques, and understand how surface, material, and composition influence the final outcome.

The workshop focuses on learning the process of batik in depth rather than simply producing a finished product, making it ideal for individuals interested in applying batik techniques to textiles, garments, and future creative practices.

No prior experience is required. This workshop is open to beginners, artists, designers, students, and anyone interested in textile surface design, wax resist techniques, and traditional craft practices.
