Botanically known as Juglans Regia

This comes from the words Jovis (Jove) and glans (acorn), while Regis means royal. It has a smooth trunk with light grey bark. It has light green flowers and a fruit that is a large, round, green nut with a husk.

The husks, leaves and bark of the branches are used as dye colourants.

It is called be living laboratory of dye production. Walnut is a substantive dye, meaning that it does not require a mordant to give out its colour on the fabric. It is used in combination with many other dyes and works very well with iron to produce greys/browns.

* Also can be used as Soap Making Colorant and Candle Making Colorant.

They prefer to grow in deep soil and cool conditions. Its origin is expected to occur in Minor Asia. They were introduced in China by its emperor in 2nd Century BC.
