Metal Mordant

Alum is the most common metal found in the earth’s crust. Alum Potassium or potash alum is a metal mordant for textiles. It is a hydrated double sulphate of potassium and aluminum. Also referred to as just Alum.

It helps in making the color fast over the textiles as well as slightly brighter, hence known as Sunny Mordant!

Uses

15-20% alum is used in relation to the dry Weight Of Fabric (WOF) to achieve good results on Silks and Wool.  

25% alum to dry WOF is suggested for mordanting cellulosic materials along with washing soda.
